Also on Oct. 1, CTNA will increase prices up to 8 percent on all Continental, General Tire and proprietary-brand passenger and light-truck tires in the U.S., the company announced last month. The amount of the increase will vary by product line and/or size. "While our company continues to make every effort to control manufacturing and distribution costs without compromising service to our customers, the unprecedented increase in the costs of raw materials and energy makes this announcement necessary," said Bill Bainbridge, director of brand communications for HTAC. He noted that the Hankook price hikes are consistent with those increases announced recently by other major tire makers marketing
    their tires in the U.S.

Cooper Tire & Rubber Co. will increase prices on all its passenger and light-truck tires by 10 percent, effective Oct. 1, according to Curtis Schneekloth, director of investor relations, on firming earlier news reports. CTNA TO INCREASE PRICES 8% OCT. 1 IN U.S.

Continental Tire North America (CTNA) said today (July 28) it will increase prices up to 8 percent on all Continental, General Tire and proprietary-brand passenger and light-truck tires in the U.S. The increase is effective Oct. 1, and will vary by market line and/or tire size.

BFNT TO INCREASE TIRE PRICES 10% ON SEPT. 1 IN U.S. AND CANADA
(Bridgestone Firestone North American Tire L.L.C. [www.bridgestone-firestone.com]; Bridgestone Firestone Canada Inc. [www.bridgestone-firestone.ca] -
    Nashville, Tenn. - July 31)

Bridgestone Firestone North American Tire (BFNT) and Bridgestone Firestone Canada have announced price increases on the companies' Bridgestone- and Firestone-brand tire lines, as well as associate-brand tires. The increases, up to 10 percent on all passenger and light-truck, truck/bus, motorcycle, agricultural and off-the-road (OTR) tires, will affect the replacement, original equipment and export channels. The price increases are scheduled to begin Sept. 1. The companies attribute the price hikes to a shortage of raw materials, the "dramatic" rise in commodity prices and the continuing high prices for gasoline and diesel fuel.

CMA TO RAISE PRICES ON DOUBLE COIN TIRES 5% ON SEPT. 1
    (China Manufacturers Alliance L.L.C. [www.doublecoin-us.com] - Monrovia, Calif. - July 22)

China Manufacturers Alliance (CMA) said it is initiating a general price increase on Double Coin TBR products and
all associate and private brand TBR products up to 5 percent, effective Sept. 1. "As energy prices continue to soar,
raw material and transportation costs have steadily increased to create pricing pressures on tire manufacturers and
marketers," CMA said in a press release. "Coupling these increases with currency valuations has made it difficult for
CMA L.L.C. to hold pricing at current levels," it added. Double Coin tires have been marketed in the U.S. since 1992,
and are supplied by CMA based in Monrovia, Calif.

MICHELIN NORTH AMERICA TO RAISE PRICES
    (Michelin North America - Greenville, S.C. - July 2)

Michelin North America (MNA) said it is raising prices due to "continuing increases in raw material, energy and transportation costs." Passenger and light-truck replacement tire prices will increase up to 12 percent on Michelin, BFGoodrich, Uniroyal, private-brand and associate-brand tires sold in the U.S., effective Sept. 1. Commercial truck tire prices will increase up to 8 percent on Michelin and BFGoodrich-brand commercial-truck replacement tires sold in the U.S., effective Sept. 1. This price increase will also apply to Michelin Retread Technologies (MRT) retreads. Motorcycle, scooter and bicycle tire and tube prices will increase up to 15 percent on Michelin-brand products sold in Canada, Mexico and the U.S., effective Sept. 1. All two-wheel products delivered after Aug. 31 will be invoiced at the new price.

Tire makers continue to increase tire prices in response to high materials prices, as Michelin announced Michelin and BF Goodrich truck replacement tires and Michelin Retread Technologies retread tires sold in the U.S. would increase prices up to 8% effective September 1, 2008.

GOODYEAR TO RAISE CV TIRE PRICES UP TO 9 PERCENT ON JULY 1
    (Goodyear [www.goodyear.com] - Akron, Ohio - June 5)
Goodyear said it has notified its customers that prices on its commercial vehicle (CV) tires will go up to 9 percent, effective July 1. TOYO TIRE TO INCREASE PRICES 8% IN U.S. ON JULY 1
    (Toyo Tire U.S.A. Corp. [www.toyo.com] - Cypress, Calif. - May 23)
Toyo Tire U.S.A. Corp. said today (May 23) it will increase pricing on consumer (passenger and light truck) and commercial (truck and bus) tire products by up to 8 percent, effective July 1. "Rapidly escalating petroleum costs have affected both the cost of manufacturing and the transportation of both materials and products," said Steve Weinger, senior vice president of sales and marketing.

CTNA TO RAISE PRICES UP TO 8% FOR OE TRUCK TIRES IN NAFTA REGION AUG. 1
Continental Tire North America (CTNA) said it will increase prices up to 8 percent on all Continental and General Tire brands for original equipment truck tires in the NAFTA region, effective Aug. 1. The price hike will vary according to market line and/or tire size. CTNA is attributing the price increase to the "continued escalation of transportation, energy and raw materials costs that we are unable to compensate with increased manufacturing efficiencies."

CTNA TO RAISE TRUCK TIRE PRICES UP TO 8% ON JULY 1
    (Continental Tire North America [www.conti-online.com] - Charlotte, N.C. - May 16)
Continental Tire North America (CTNA) said today (May 16) that it will be increasing its prices on all Continental, General, Semperit and private-brand truck tires up to 8 percent, effective July 1. The price hike is in response to the "unprecedented" escalation of raw materials that are used to make radial truck tires, such as natural rubber, steel, carbon black and crude oil, CTNA said in a statement. CTNA last raised prices on its commercial tires up to 6 percent on Feb. 1. The company earlier this month announced a price increase of up to 9 percent on all Continental, General and proprietary-brand passenger and light-truck tires, effective July 1 in the U.S. and June 1 in Canada.

The amount of the increase will vary by product line and/or size. The increases will take effect July 1. "The prices increases at Hankook are consistent with price hikes announced recently by other major tire manufacturers marketing their products in the U.S.," the company said in a press release. "The increase in prices reflects the industry's sharply rising costs for raw materials and energy consumed in manufacturing and distribution," it added.

The announced increases, up to 10 percent, become effective June 1. The price hikes will affect passenger and light-truck, truck and bus, and agricultural and Off-the-road (OTR) tires sold through replacement, original equipment and export channels. Both tire companies attributed the price increases to "the continuing record-breaking upward spiral of fuel, energy and raw material costs … "

COOPER TIRE TO RAISE PRICES UP TO 8% ON JULY 1
    (Cooper Tire & Rubber Co. [www.coopertire.com] - Findlay, Ohio - May 6)
Cooper Tire & Rubber Co. said it will raise prices in North America up to 8 percent on its passenger and light-truck tires, effective July 1. Raw material cost increases are attributed to the price hike. Cooper last raised passenger and light-truck tire prices up to 4 percent on Oct. 1, 2007.

"Unprecedented energy prices continue to impact our costs, particularly for raw materials and transportation," said Saul Solomon, president of BBTS.

    Modern Tire Dealer - January 28, 2008
    BFNT announces across-the-board price hikes
Bridgestone Firestone North American Tire LLC will raise prices on its Bridgestone, Firestone and
associate brand passenger, light truck, medium truck, bus, farm and OTR tires up to 8% on March 1. Bridgestone Firestone North American Tire LLC (BFNT) will raise prices on its Bridgestone, Firestone and associate brand passenger, light truck, medium truck, bus, farm and OTR tires up to 8% on March 1. Hikes will affect BFNT's replacement, original equipment and export channels. "The continuing unprecedented upward spiral of energy and raw material costs makes this action necessary," says Asahiko “Duke” Nishiyama, vice chairman and president of BFNT. "This unrelenting escalation of costs is simply not a situation that can be managed through the enhanced efficiencies and increased productivity that we are continually implementing at all levels of our company. As a result, we have no choice but to implement this price increase."
